What We Offer
The Sands Cox Charity provides annual bursaries for both medical and dental students at The University of Birmingham to assist them in planning and undertaking an elective. Those selected, do scientific, educationally rewarding and career-enhancing projects.
Five £500 bursaries are available for medical students’ and two £500 John Rippin Elective Bursaries for dental students.
The Sands Cox John Rippin Memorial Prize worth £200 is given for the Best Dental Elective Report
Recipients are required to give a 10-minute presentation on their elective at the Sands Cox Charity AGM held in the Autumn. These presentations have been of a very high standard, are well received and go well with the interesting talks given by our guest speakers. There is a £200 prize for the best student presenter.
They must also submit a short paper (up to 1500 words) describing, in outline, their studies and travels and these are published in Aesculapius.
The winner of The Stuart Green Bursary, a competitively awarded Faculty Grant, also presents a paper and have their work published in Aesculapius.
The bursaries therefore allow them to gain experience in presenting information to senior medics and also to enhance their CVs.
To apply for an Elective Bursary, go to University of Birmingham student virtual intranet, click on the Bursary link on the Elective Project Canvas page.
